Mr. Kwadwo Osei-Asibey, Techiman Municipal Director of Education, at the weekend urged teachers not to place their private economic activities above the teaching profession.
To go about your extra income schedules like trading and farming at the expense of the classroom work would not only have adverse effect on the education of the nation but also amounted to a breach of the social contract with the pupils, students and parents, he emphasised.
Mr. Osei-Asibey, who is also the Acting District Director of Education for Nkoranza was addressing teachers from Kranka circuit as part of his maiden visit to the schools in the area.
He expressed concern about the negative practices of some teachers who visited their farms and market centres during school hours, stressing that those practices were contrary to the codes and ethics of the teaching profession
The Director warned that teachers who absented themselves from classes and failed to perform as expected would be sanctioned accordingly.
Mr. Osei-Asibey cautioned teachers against immoral behaviours, saying since they were role models in the communities they should live above reproach for the pupils and students to emulate them.
The Director called on Head Teachers and Headmasters to ensure proper supervision of their schools by keeping their teachers on track for improvement of standard of education in the communities.
He urged School Management Committees and Parent Teachers Associations to promote discipline and effective teaching and learning in the schools for positive dividend from the investments being made in their wards.
Nana Amo Kwao, the circuit supervisor in-charge of the area urged teachers to regard teaching as a noble profession and approach their duties with the needed seriousness.
He said that would transform the lives of the children entrusted into their care for them to become responsible future leaders and professionals.
